Obituary of William Horry

William Horry was born April 15, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Ernest L. and Elizabeth Sue (Crutchfield) Horry and passed from this life in Tulsa, OK on May 2, 2015 at the age of 81 from complications of cancer. Bill met the love of his life Glenda Lou (Miller) Horry while attending Central High School, where they both graduated from in 1952. They were married on October 15, 1955. Bill was a very adventurous person, he loved the outdoors, sailing, fishing, hunting, hiking and especially flying in his Cessna 182. He enjoyed travels through Europe, Russia, Canada and Mexico. His favorite place to vacation with family was Lake City, Colorado. His Naval career had him stationed in the Far East & South Pacific in 1953. He retired as the Emergency Operations Manager from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1991. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, Tulsa Masonic Lodge #71, Tulsa Consistory- Scottish Rite, York Rite- Trinity Commandary #20, Society of American Military Engineers, US Naval Institute, South Carolina Historical Society, International Oceanographic Foundation and Cruising Club of America. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Glenda; infant twin sons Marcus and Marcel Horry; grandchild Gregory M. Horry Jr., and his brother, Vernon Barry Horry. He is survived by his son Gregory M. Horry of Tulsa; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa G. & L. Kevin Payne and Denise and Douglas W. Thornton, all of Broken Arrow; his six grandchildren, Jeromy Horry, Sheila McDaniel, Brenton and Stephanie Payne, Danielle and Grant Thornton; and one great grandchild, Talon McDaniel; and his sister Suzanne Tomasko. Service 2:00 P.M. Friday First United Methodist Church – McBirney Chapel with interment in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The family suggests donations be made in Bill’s memory to Clarehouse, 7616 South Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK 74133.
