David Michael (Mike) King, M.D. was born August 13, 1943 in Tulsa, OK to Lawrence Ashley and Katharine Louise (Owsley) King and passed from this life in Tulsa, OK August 26, 2015 at the age of 72.
Mike grew up in Tulsa, graduating from Edison High School in 1961. Continuing his education, he graduated from the University of Tulsa and then attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He married Karen Alda Sedgwick in St. Louis in August of 1968. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical Center, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in the Boston Area. He and Karen returned to Tulsa where he practiced gastroenterology for 39 years at Springer Clinic, Warren Clinic and Saint Francis Hospital.
Mike was an amateur photographer who bolstered his skills with photography courses at Tulsa Community College. He also had a life-long interest in astronomy and belonged to the Astronomy Club of Tulsa and the Planetary Society. He enjoyed restoring antique radios and was a member of the Heartland Antique Radio Association, the Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society and belonged to the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club. He read widely and built an extensive home library.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Karen King; his daughter Vanessa Adria King and partner, Sarah Anne Campbell; his daughter, Laura Melea King-Anderson and husband, Jeremy Richard Anderson; and his grandson, Gavin Michael Anderson.
A reception will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home.
