To the Boone Family, I was reminiscing about my hometown of Smithers/Montgomery WV today and decided to see if I could locate an address for Dr. Boone - sadly, I found his obituary. I'm sorry for your loss and I'm thankful for his long, productive life and his dedication to his family, patients and community. I remember his parents worrying and telling me he had a significant head trauma from bumping his head on the plane wing. He certainly looked like his sweet mother with a good dose of his dad added. Dr. Boone made house calls when I was a child. Once, I had a severe earache, he removed a large plug of wax and I was instantly pain free. His sister, Betty Jo DeVault was my Health/P.E. teacher at Montgomery High School. She was wonderful and had a great sense of humor. My dad taught her High School Biology. Not certain, but he may have taught Dr. Boone. My dad was teaching, enlisted in the Navy during WWII, then returned to teaching. When I married in 1966, I lived in the garage apartment of Dr. Boone's terrific parents. I grew up just around the corner from them, went to church with them, knew them my entire life. I remember Dr. Boone had an inflatable motor boat - the first I'd ever seen and he enjoyed it on the Kanawha River. If I recall correctly, Dr. Boone and his wife, Ruth, lived in the garage apartment - a lot of newly weds started their married lives in that little love nest! "Mom and Pop" Boone, treated my husband and I like their own children, often sharing freshly baked cornbread and other goodies. The last time I saw Dr. Boone, was when his parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Presbyterian Church, where I reminded him of me begging for a little sister. I told him "don't bring me a brother, I have one already and don't need another." He said "I can't promise but I'll do the best I can." He finally "brought" her when I was 8 and delivered her (Rita) in Laird Memorial Hospital. I was born in the house beside the church and watched the construction of the church. I have a picture of the congregation when the church opened - Mr. and Mrs. Boone are in the picture. Smithers was sad to see Mom and Pop Boone relocate to OK but we were thrilled they would be closer to their beloved son. We wrote to each other until her death and she was devastated by the loss of her husband. He always drove beautiful Buick's - very looooong cars. Great memories of that family. My best to all of you.

Mrs. Boone & Family:
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Boone We share your deep sense of loss.. He was our family doctor and friend during the entire time that he was in Mooreland. Through his medicine and his community service, he literally breathed life into the Mooreland community. He was one of the last true rural country doctors who understood and could cure just about anything that ailed you. I remember being injured on the football field one time when Mooreland was playing Buffalo (Tom probably ran over me!), he ran across the field and was with me before I could get up, even though I was on the opposing team.
While the good news is that there can be no doubt about where he is now, we have lost a giant of a man who played a large part in the history of Northwestern Oklahoma. People are alive today and have children and grandchildren because of Dr. Boone. We are grateful to the family for sharing him with us and we will never forget him. May God bless all of you at this time. Tom Lucas, Woodward, Oklahoma

With deepest sympathy to the family: I broke my arm when I was in 2nd grade and Dr. Boone put the cast on it. He and Ruth were active members in the Methodist Church in Watonga. Ruth often played the organ. My dad taught Dr. Boone and his wife to fly an airplane. Dr. Boone was a a wonderful man. Dr. Boone and Ruth are special to our family. God Bless you all during this time.

Dear Ruth and Boone Family,
I write with an immensely heavy heart upon hearing of the loss of Dr. Boone. I didn’t keep in touch with him after leaving Western Oklahoma and that was surely my loss. In fact, his family may never have heard of me, but I most certainly remember him. If I may, let me share some notes to show what a deep influence he had on this red dirt Oakwood kid.
As an adolescent, he took an interest in me beyond the office; with me he shared his love of aviation, of stamp collecting, and of intelligent discourse.
His airplane took me aloft for the first time and instilled a love of flight that has stayed with me to this day. His patriotism and devotion to public service shaped my career as much as any teacher or counselor.
He shared his love of stamp collecting and the collection he helped me start has also carried to present day. I think of him when I leaf through the pages and share their stories with my own children.
His Pampered and Punished art, the ones he kept in his office, often come to my mind and my heart, as I try to carry his example to my son and daughters. He will be missed but, as is the case with my own departed father, his impact and his example live on.
Offered with deepest sympathy,
Colonel Carl Magnusson, USAF

My parents Ray and Olive Lee Cook, from Seiling, doctored with Dr. Boone for years and he delivered my youngest sister Tina in 1960. He was also my sister Connie and my doctor as well. We all had the greatest respect for him as a doctor and as an individual. The last time we all saw him was at Dr. Robert Bush's service in Seiling. He was always a proud dad and always talked about his kids when we went to see him professionally.
We lost our dad in 2001 and just lost our mother, age 92, this past April.
When I think of Dr. Boone I always smile. How lucky we were to have him practice at Mooreland for so many years and he made it a great hospital.
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you and I do know you all did what you could to take good, loving care of both your mom and dad. I hope your mom is still attending the races that she once did and usually won in her age group of which she was so proud.
Love, May

Dear Ruth and family,
After learning of Dr. Boone's passing, my daughters, Martha and Julia Henderson, and I shared our memories of the good doctor and the different ways he touched our lives. I also remember the special times with you, Ruth, as we worked together for the American Cancer Society. You both were sorely missed when you left the Mooreland area. May God give you, and all the family, comfort during this time.

We in Mooreland were indeed fortunate to have the services of a wonderful surgeon while Dr. Boone resided there. The quality of our small town hospital rivaled that of many larger facilities, and the Boones were largely responsible. Their generosity went beyond their medical gifts, and all of us who grew up with their family appreciated their willingness to serve school, church, and community as well as hospital. Ruth and Family, thanks for sharing your and Doctor's lives with us. You were loved and appreciated.
