Obituary of Thomas Sylvester Sisson
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Sylvester Sisson of Tulsa, OK passed away on February 16 at the age of 83 and is best remembered as a loving husband, father, and “Pappa.”
Tom, a descendant of Tulsa founder J. M. Hall, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Minor and Faye Sisson on February 20, 1932.
He was a proud member of the Tulsa Central High School “Nifty Class of 1950.” He attended the University of Tulsa and received his degree in 1955.
He worked for seventeen years at National Bank of Tulsa, where he became the Vice President of the newly formed bond department. He was also active in the NBT American Institute of Banking debate team. In 1972, he became president of City Bank and Trust of Tulsa. He concluded his professional career as a stock broker. However, his true vocations were tinkering around the house, fishing with grandkids, and camping with family for which he served as director of “Camp Pappa.”
He served as chairman of the Tulsa County March of Dimes annual telethon. He was also a member of the Jaycees and the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa, where he co-chaired the 1973 Kanchi auction. He served on several community boards including The University of Tulsa Hurricane Club. In retirement, he supported the Parent and Child Center and the Salvation Army Christmas Drive.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Cline Sisson, his daughter Elizabeth Nash of Tulsa, daughters and sons-in-law Brenda and David Casper of Tulsa, Laura and Brad Garrison of Tulsa, Nancy and Bob Babich of San Diego, CA and Mary and Chris Rankin of Tulsa. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Minor and Faye Sisson, his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Charles Bales, and his son-in-law, Michael Nash.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30, Saturday, February 20 at First Presbyterian Church, 709 S. Boston Ave, Tulsa, OK with Reverend Ryan Moore officiating. Friends may contribute in his memory to The Parent and Child Center, 1421 S. Boston Ave, Tulsa, OK 74119.
