Obituary of Richard Wayne Reed
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Wayne Reed was born May 23, 1931 in Winslow, Arkansas to Lloyd E. Reed and Viola Reed (Craytor) and went to be with his Heavenly Father and join his wife of forty years on March 1, 2016 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Richard and Bertha Marie (Caughman), were school sweethearts at age 13, they were married on Valentine's Day, 1956. This union gave them two daughters, Marilyn and Sherri.
Richard and Bertha were charter members of the Memorial Drive Church of Christ. Richard served as a deacon of the church many years. Both Richard and Bertha led a life of example - always ready to serve others. During Richard's lifetime, he delivered The Lord's Supper /Communion, to many homebound individuals on Sunday afternoons.
Richard drove a semi-truck for 45 years, a career he loved passionately, and led him opportunities to see nearly all of the United States. This career gave him many stories that he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. He was delighted to say that he was a member of the 'Brotherhood' -Teamsters Local 523, and proudly wore his Teamster's Jacket. His union brothers had such close ties, and he spoke of them often and highly - especially Roy Hubbard, as they both continued to address each other as, 'brother' long after retirement.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bertha Marie Reed; his brother, Lloyd E. Reed Jr (Marion Reed); and his sister, Christine Caudle.
He is survived by his two daughters; Marilyn Jo Bridges (Greg Bridges) Tulsa, OK and Sherri Lea Storm (Russel Storm), Owasso, OK. Grandson Gregory Grant Bridges (Abby Bridges), Broken Arrow, OK. Granddaughter Victoria Grace Bridges (Orlando, FL). Grandson Seth Richard Storm (Fiancé' Suzanna Sawyer), Granddaughters; Shelby Elizabeth Storm, Tulsa, OK and Scarlett Marie Storm, Owasso, OK. Grandpa Richard was thrilled to hold his first Great Grandbaby Eleanor Gail Bridges- born February 10, 2016.
Richard's wishes were followed - a modest graveside service, with his two daughters and their families present at Memorial Park Cemetery. He was granted a beautiful, sunny day. Richard's minister of 40 years, Terry Rush, presided over the service: sharing some personal stories from the past, and offering a heartfelt prayer. Two of Richard's favorite songs were played by his favorite artists: I Saw the Light, written and sung by Hank Williams, Sr. (sung by Richard the evening prior to his passing) and I'll Fly Away - sung by Johnny Cash. A red, long stemmed carnation, placed by each family member adorned Richard's casket.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Nurse Robyn Lee for her long term home health care. Richard loved her, and always looked forward to her visits.
