Obituary of Vicki Ann Grant

Please share a memory of Vicki to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vicki Grant, beloved wife of William A. Grant, Jr., left us to be with the Lord Thursday, March 10 at Saint Francis Hospital. She succumbed to injuries sustained after falling near her home in Guier Woods the previous day. Vicki was born in Newton, Kansas in 1938 and resided in Wichita, Kansas until her graduation from Eastern High School in 1955. Tireless and determined in everything she did, Vicki completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Houston in just three years allowing her to follow the love of her life, Bill, as he began graduate school at Harvard. They married in August, 1958. Vicki’s energy, intelligence, loving heart and special talents became widely known and cherished by many after she moved to Houston in 1961 with her young family. Vicki was active in the lives of her three children with sports, PTA, and the Houston Junior Forum. As an active and prominent member of her college sorority she was recognized by Chi Omega as Outstanding Alumna. Golfing and tennis were Vicki’s most loved sports. At The Southern Hills Country Club, she served as Chair of the Nine Hole Group and as Communications Chair for the 1977 US Open and the 1982 PGA Championship. Bill and Vicki moved several times to Houston, Dallas, Tulsa and New York City, returning to Tulsa upon Bill’s retirement. In Tulsa, Vicki gave many years of service at Laureate where she was also volunteer Chair of the Eating Disorder Program. As an active and enthusiastic member of her beloved First Presbyterian Church she shared many years of fellowship with the Guild of Intercessors Prayer Group, the Soup Group Circle and The Lunch Bunch. Throughout these years Vicki lived fearlessly, without complaint and undeterred in the face of a rare and severe leukemia, one from which she unexpectedly and completely achieved remission after prolonged and debilitating experimental treatment. Vicki leaves us as loving wife, mother and grandmother of unmatched devotion and as a loyal, caring and talented friend who touched many lives across many generations. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Naoma Black and grandson William Peyton Grant. She is survived by her adoring husband of 58 years, Bill, daughter Lindee McCarthy and husband Kevin of Frederick, MD, son William Grant III and mate Angie Scott of Tulsa and son Michael Grant and wife Kim of Houston, TX. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Patrick, Kathleen, Michael and Kelly McCarthy, Logan Grant and Sarah and Wilson Grant. Vicki has requested that in lieu of lowers, donations be made to a charity of one’s choice. A Celebration of Life will be held at Southern Hills Country Club from 3 to 5 pm, April 2, 2016.
