Obituary of Dorothy E. Chase
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy was born on November 21, 1926 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Carl and Catherine Meyer. Her German grandparents and parents emigrated from Russia to this small farming community in western Nebraska. Dorothy passed from this life on Thursday, November 21, 2016 her 90th birthday.
Dorothy was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She earned her Associates Degree at Scottsbluff Jr. College where she met her husband Gene. They married in 1946, and by 1953 had four beautiful daughters. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary August 15, 2016.
The family moved to Tulsa in 1958 where they became involved with the sport aviation community. Dorothy loved being a homemaker and caring for her husband and their daughters. She excelled at cooking and baking, specializing in German family favorites.
In 1973 Dorothy and Gene relocated to Wisconsin where they both worked for the Experimental Aircraft Association. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a lifetime member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, attending annual national conventions to honor her heritage. In 2011 they returned to Tulsa to be closer to family. During the past five years at University Village, Dorothy enjoyed making new friendships, reading, and playing bridge. However, her most rewarding moments were the times she spent being Gene’s primary caregiver. She always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald, her daughter Peggy Allan, and her son-in-law Tom Williams.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters, Cathy Williams and Linda Fiddler (Bill) of Tulsa and Susan Kay of Mt. Shasta, California; son-in-law, Scotty Allan of La Porte, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren living in Texas, New York and Tulsa and 3 nieces and 1 nephew living in Nebraska, Colorado and California with their children and grandchildren.
With sincere gratitude, we thank you all for your generous thoughts and prayers. Please consider making a donation to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma in her memory.
