Obituary of Yvonne Evans Luker

Please share a memory of Yvonne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Yvonne Evans Luker passed from this life into the arms of her Eternal Father Dec 19, 2016. She was born in Tulsa, OK on September 19, 1920. Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents James Uylessis and Mamie Lea Garst Evans, her husband John Raiford Luker Jr., her sister Jimmie Lea Boggs, brothers Jack and Robert Evans. She is survived by children Linda Luker, Diane Clark husband Gene, Romaney Johnson husband Bill, John Luker wife Marilyn and Dan Luker. Grand children Shaun Lee wife Brandi, Allison Robinson husband Todd, Jessica Salter husband Shawn, Elena and James Luker and seven great grand children. Twiggy (as Dan called her) has checked out of here at 96 ¼ years old and we will miss her dearly. Mother of five who clothed us, cooked wonderful homemade food, took us to Dr. Appointments, cared for us when we were ill. She Was an avid tennis player in High School, mastered the piano and the saxophone. Played saxophone in an all girls college orchestra at OSU to make extra money. Was a talented artist, water color was her favorite medium, she painted in the style of Van Gogh (as her art teacher would say). Was a very skilled tailor. She would choose the most difficult patterns to sew and always wanted to use the finest fabrics. Quality was important to her. She had good taste! But, she was also a fantastic bargain shopper and taught us all the thrill of the hunt and the value of a good bargain She was a sales representative for Dru Iron, her brother Robert's import cookware business. Early in their marriage Mom led Dad to accept Jesus Christ. They loved the Lord and served him throughout their life. Mom played the electric piano while Dad led Sunday Morning Service at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital for many years. Both were active members of Brookside Baptist Church and Victory Church. Yvonne loved the Lord and studied the scriptures. It gave her great pleasure to entertain her church family with pot luck dinners playing forty-two and dominoes. Someone who never complained. (Well, she might have complained a little, when we lit the back yard on fire). Even took care of baby calves that Dad would bring home when they required extra TLC. Yvonne was able to live in her home, the one she designed and our dad and grandfather built in 1950, until about a year and a half ago. One day she decided to knock out a wall to make the game room larger. Which made a perfect place for her ironing parties with her girlfriends. Perhaps her inspiration! Would paint and stencil walls of the house. Always applying her artistic skills in many different mediums. In her later years she loved to start each day with a cup of coffee and begin to conquer the crossword puzzles. I don't think she missed a single day. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and a beautiful smile. Never said an unkind word, had no use for gossip or would engage in a pity party. We love you, Rest in Peace! Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Victory Christian Center Chapel, 7700 So. Lewis Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Audubon Society. Mother delighted in watching the birds. Ninde Funeral Directors, Brookside Chapel - (918) 742-5556 - www.ninde.com
