Obituary of Jean Dryden McAfee
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Dryden McAfee was born on December 6, 1930, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Oran and Bonnie Dryden. She passed from this life on January 3, 2017, in Oklahoma City at the age of 86.
She moved to Tulsa as a child when her father went to work for M.K.&O. Coach Lines. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1948. She worked in the oil and gas industry as an Executive Assistant throughout her younger years. She was married to Edward L. McAfee in 1956 and had three children. He died in 1975 at the age of 42.
She had a flair for planning parties and events, cooking elaborate meals for family and friends while making it all look effortless. After many years spent as a homemaker, she obtained her real estate license and became a realtor later in life. She also returned to the oil and gas industry working for Thomas Oil and Gas in Tulsa. She moved back to Stillwater for a few years to care for her aging parents. Due to her care and devotion, they never had to spend a day in a nursing home before they passed. She had a passion for helping animals throughout her life and showed her concern for the stray cats in her apartment complex by building little heated cat condos on her patio. Even with a diagnosis of dementia, she had an extensive vocabulary that sent her caretakers to the dictionary to find the meaning of her words. An elegant and lovely woman, Jean was the epitome of poise and grace.
She is preceded in death by an infant sister, her parents, and her youngest daughter, Allyson McAfee Puckett. She is survived by her daughter Melanee Kister, her son-in-law, Steve, of Oklahoma City, her son Eddy O. McAfee of Tulsa and three granddaughters, Kristen Brownlow of Marietta, Georgia, Lindsay Kistler and Hillary Hale of Oklahoma City.
