Walter Winthrop Hendon, Jr. was born March 4, 1935 in Chickasha, OK to Walter Winthrop & Mildred Dana (Hickman) Hendon and passed from this life surrounded by family on February 8, 2017 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 81.

Walter graduated from Chickasha, OK High School in 1953 and attended Oklahoma College for Women for 2 years where he met his future wife Geraldine. They were married in 1956 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a long-time member of Southminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, sang in the choir and enjoyed fellowship groups and pot-luck dinners. He loved tools, model airplanes, cars, boats and anything mechanical. Traveling was his passion. He spent many hours mapping out the route to his favorite destinations and loved driving his RV. Walt was a family man and enjoyed teaching his boys water skiing, building models, flying radio-controlled airplanes, fixing cars and anything under the roof. He was often mistaken by children as Santa Claus and enjoyed playing Santa for Grandson Spencer and Spencer’s friends.

Walt was a long-time member of Tulsa Glue Dobbers, a club for model airplane enthusiasts, and served as president and newsletter editor. He planned numerous events including the Jumbo Fly-In in August.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Stanley Ray Hendon and William George Hendon. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” (Cox) Hendon; his sons, David Walter Hendon & wife Jane and Steven Ray Hendon; his daughters, Dana Maria Flora & husband Scott and Carol Anne Kidder & husband, Scott; his grandchildren, Spencer Alan Flora, Kathryn LeAnn Weaver and Brant Marshall Weaver; and his great grandchild, MadeLynn Davidson.
