Luis managed the Kermit Swimming Pool back in the day. I was a lifeguard at that time and remember his love for music even back then... Always dancing around and singing all the "top 40" songs as they played over the loud speakers. Lots of fond memories of those days! Also, got to spend some time around Luis in the Kermit Band, he was a senior and I was a freshman. Four years later I found myself enrolled at Texas Tech University as a struggling freshman in the Electrical Engineering program. During my second semester at Tech I had to take Calculus as my math class. I didn't even know how to spell calculus much less know anything about it. After the 1st 2 weeks of class the instructor gave a pop quiz in which I scored a "7" on! I remember waiting until after the class was over that day and asking the instructor if his grading scale was 1 to 10. He replied and I quote, "You no understand dis class"! I left the classroom at the math building that day in shock thinking my college days were soon to be over. As fate would have it, as I was leaving the building Luis was walking in the building through the same door. We had not seen each other since high school and I had no idea he was at Texas Tech. He asked how things were and I explained my disaster in the calculus class, showed him my test and he "busted a gut" in laughter for the next several minutes! I, on the other hand was almost in tears. After he joked around about my prep years spent at 'ole KHS he invited me over to his house that evening and told me to bring a brand new package of graph paper and a large pizza. I showed up that evening (with graph paper/pizza in hand) and what happened next changed the course of my college career! Luis took me under his wing and tutored me in Calculus and in a short 3 weeks time had me where I should have been when I sat down in that calculus class on the first day. Oh, and the graph paper! Luis told me, "From this day forward, for every math class from now until you graduate, do all your homework / tests on graph paper, one problem per page and WRITE BIG"! I know it sounds simple but believe me it made all the difference in the world. I ended up with an "A" in the class and also graduated from Texas Tech in '84 and to this day am convinced it would not have happened without our meeting at the math building that day! All that to say Luis was an amazing guy, one that loved life and the people around him. His witty personality was infectious and made you want to be around him more and more. I will miss you my friend and cannot thank you enough for the days gone by--til we meet again.

It was a privilege to be a fellow worker with Luis at Transok and a Christian brother with him at First Baptist. My prayers are with Lenora, Josh, Lutie and the rest of the family as they grieve his loss from this earth. As a believer, I know I will see him again. He just got to heaven a little while before me.

Very sorry to hear of Luis passing this world and will pray for the entire family as they go through this time of mourning. Luis and I graduated from KHS the same year and did not reconnect until Facebook times. My bosses son graduated from the University of Tulsa in Petroleum Engineering and Luis became his mentor. I called Luis to tell him of the strange connection scenario and circumstances that life had demonstrated. Who would have thought our lives would keep crossing through the years! I know he will be missed by all since he was such a good Christian man, husband, father, and friend to all. May we see each other again on that last day!!

Graduated with Luis from Kermit High School, 1974. Met up again years later on f-b, and enjoyed his sense of humour and seeing his lovely family and his children's musical accomplishments.
He was a dear husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He is loved by many, and will be missed very much. God bless you, Luis. May you be at peace, and rest from all your sufferings.
