Obituary of Hugh C. Atchison
Hugh Clark Atchison went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2017. He was born in Brighton, Colorado on October 5, 1928. While raising his family, Hugh realized the benefit of a college education, so he enrolled in and graduated from The University of Colorado at Boulder (Go Buffs!) in 1958 with a degree in chemical engineering. Hugh then worked within various divisions of Dow Chemical and was granted the distinction of two patents within his related fields. He was preceded in death by Lorraine, his wife of 48 years; and survived by Jean Atchison, his wife of fifteen years; her daughter Vicki Durie and her son Kelly Hackler and their families. Hugh is also survived by: his daughter Diana Townsend and her husband Larry, from San Antonio, Texas; son Clayton Atchison and his wife Janet from Leakey, Texas; son Jeffery Atchison and wife Kristen of Owasso, OK; son Michael Atchison and wife Alison, from Claremore, OK. Without a doubt, Hugh delighted in his grandchildren: ten grandsons and six granddaughters as well as five great grandchildren. In life, Hugh was a devout Christian who did everything for the glory of God. He had been an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and he had volunteered as a math tutor at Laureate Psychiatric Hospital.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to: The Asbury UMC Children’s Ministries; The American Heart Association, or The Laureate Psychiatric Hospital (through The Children’s Hospital Foundation at St. Francis Hospital).
Family will receive friends 5-7PM Thursday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 39th & Peoria. Private interment at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. The public memorial service for Hugh will be held October 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Chapel.
How Hugh must have rejoiced when hearing his Creator’s words “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
