Obituary of Imogene Jurhee Vandergriff
Imogene Jurhee “Jerry” Vandergriff was born on May 19, 1926 in Braggs, OK to William Clarence & Una (Lambert) Cox and passed from this life on March 20, 2018 in Norton, KS at the age of 91.
She graduated high school in Coyle, Oklahoma, and attended two years of college. She worked as a switchboard operator at St. Francis Hospital until she retired in 1987. She married Lawrence N. Vandergriff on June 5th, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Coyle. They had one daughter Patricia Vandergriff.
Jerry loved God, her county, and OU football. Her Saturdays always revolved around the big game. She enjoyed jokes and visiting with others. She was like a “great grandma” to a neighbor girl, Christina.
Jerry’s mother encouraged her while growing up to always be content no matter the circumstance and Jerry’s life modeled that to the end. Her final years were spent at the Andbe Home in Norton, Ks where she loved and was loved by the staff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Vandergriff. Jerry is survived by her daughter, Patricia Vandergriff; and her lifelong childhood friends Donnaree Hemphill and Peggy Miller.
A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 26 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel where she will be laid to rest following.
