Obituary of Julianne S. Haslam Cottrell
Julianne “Julie” Stephens Haslam Cottrell was born July 29, 1937 in Tulsa, OK to Robert and Jewell (Taylor) Stephens. Julie passed from this life on July 21, 2018 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 80.
She attended Lee Elementary and Central High School. She graduated from Oklahoma University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Julie married Gilbert Earle Haslam, Jr. M.D. in June 1958. She was a kindergarten teacher, volunteer and member of the Junior League of Tulsa. Julie's first love was her family and she was an avid OU football fan as well as a great fan of the arts. Her love of teaching often extended to her family. She loved having Camp Julie for her grandchildren. She loved playing the piano and visiting Philbrook and Gilcrease Museums. Julie had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Some of her most notable trips included China, Australia, Europe and many places within the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Gilbert Earle Haslam, Jr. M.D., & G.W.Cottrell.
Julie is survived by her son, Robert E. Haslam, and his wife, Elizabeth of Ft. Worth, TX, her daughter, Juliyn Taylor of Beverly Hills, CA and her grandchildren: Robert A. Haslam and his wife, Veronica of Houston, TX, Elizabeth Haslam of Ft Worth, TX and William Haslam of Tulsa, OK; great-grandchildren: Charlene Haslam and Benton Gilbert Haslam of Houston, TX.
Her family extends sincere appreciation and gratitude for all of the love, prayers, support and friendship during Julie’s battle with Alzheimer’s and to all the wonderful staff, nursing staff at Montereau for their loving care and kindness toward Julie. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother who will be forever missed. Julie was an inspiration to all, family friends and the community.
Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 25th at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church Rose Chapel followed by a private family committal at Memorial Park Cemetery.
