James Harrell Smith departed this life to meet his Lord on February 12, 2013. James died of lung cancer after a battle of 8 years. He was a very outgoing man and never met a stranger. When you became his friend you were friends for life. James loved dogs and has had many over the years. He loved music and learned to play the guitar during his high school years. He was born in Sand Springs, OK to Thomas Pryor Smith and Edith Smith on December 28, 1941 and graduated from Sand Springs High School with the class of 1960. Upon his graduation he enlisted in the US Army and served his country until 1965. He then began a career with his best friend, Tom Harris and they became known as the Rovin' Singers. They played guitar, banjo and sang songs of heartfelt ballads and folk music. They had a great sound and were known around Tulsa and many other states. James loved his family and his precious wife Connie who died of ALS in 2010. Many friends and relatives have stood by and cared for James throughout his long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents TP and Edith Smith; his wife Connie and brother, Roy Smith. Those left behind with the many memories of James are his brother, Don R. Smith and family; his sister-in-law, Betty Smith and family; his nephew, Eric Smith and good friends, Carol Vandiver, John and Donna Moore, along with many others friends and relatives.
