Obituary of Joyce Murphy
Marilyn Joyce (McWilliams) Murphy was born December 24, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to James Carl and Dorothy Ruth (Walker) McWilliams. She passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones on December 28, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 72. Joyce grew up in Irving, Texas. She married Paul Murphy in 1965, and they shared almost fifty-four years of marriage together. They raised three wonderful, Christ-seeking children who, with their spouses, gave Joyce ten loving grandchildren.
Joyce was beautiful. Her beauty was not from mere appearance, but her selfless, tireless care for others transcended physical beauty and endeared her to everyone. Each of her friends and family members experienced her personal, tender comfort through her diligence and radiant smile. She loved the forgotten people and faithfully attended many elderly loved ones. Joyce volunteered with various hospitals and children’s services throughout her life. Joyce was a wonderful “Gigi” to her ten grandchildren for twenty-six years. With her beautiful singing and her lovely harmonies, she blessed her church, her friends, and her family for decades.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Paul Murphy; children: Jan Boomer, Pam Ross, and Jon Murphy and their respective spouses: Marsh Boomer, Robby Ross, and Lorrie Murphy; her ten grandchildren: Taylor Boomer, Susanna Boomer, Tori Ross, Davis Ross, Lydia Ross, Jack Murphy, Emilie Tindle, Julia Tindle, Andrew Murphy, and Maegan Murphy; her sister Liz Bowers; her brother Carl McWilliams; and countless extended family members and dear friends. Joyce joins her mother Dorothy, father James, and beloved older brother Kenny in heaven with her Jesus.
The family will receive friends 3-5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. Friends may contribute in Joyce’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 1115 S Boulder Ave., Tulsa, OK 74119.
