James Newton "Jim" Kyzar was born in Shreveport, LA on July 28, 1924 to James Ray Kyzar and Lucy Gertrude (Gunnell) Kyzar. Jim passed away on March 5, 2013, at the age of 88. In November 2010 he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Gladys Kyzar,. He is survived by his three daughters: Colleen Preston of Lexington, SC; Cynthia Fowler, of Wylie, TX and Candace McTwigan of Moultonborough, NH; and their husbands; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Jim began his career with Kansas City Southern Railroad at 18 years of age and continued service until his retirement as General Freight Manager in Tulsa. During World War II he served fifty missions as a ball turret gunner in a B-24 bomber, participating in the liberation of Italy. He told stories of his war experiences to school children at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum in 2011. Jim was an ardent square dancer with his wife at various festivals in Tulsa and in many other states. Together they vacationed in all fifty states. He enjoyed woodworking and made many gifts for friends and family. He was a faithful servant in the Christian Church volunteering his times as youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, deacon, maintenance duties and cooking Wednesday night suppers.
Jim had a wonderful sense of humor. His twinkling blue eyes and mischievous grin will be missed so much by friends and family.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations in Jim's name be made to the Cookson Hills Christian Ministries, RR3, Box 200, Kansas, OK 74347 or to the Missions Fund at Northside Christian Church, 1221 N. Elm Place, Broken Arrow, OK.
