David and I were big childhood buddies. We met as neighbors around 1957 or so. We both lived on Urbana and went to Owen Elementary. There were a lot of young baby boomers around then. We ran the streets in those days, no worries learning about life and young love. Tonight I reminded myself where David had signed my yearbooks at Hamilton and Rogers, and the sweet memories of those days. At TU David was legal, I was science, and we slowly parted ways. I never forgot him though, in September I asked several people at the Rogers 50th reunion if they knew where he was. I guess, now we know.

David Mandrell was one of my oldest and closest friend. We met during our first year at Will Rogers High School and shared an interest in Journalism and music. We spent a lot of time working on journalism assignments including record reviews. We discovered the Butterfield Blues Band. We began to follow Michael Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. Bloomfield left the band to start the Electric Flag. we were determined to review it for school . With highly unorthodox use of our journalism passes we left Rogers and went to Pennies. We bought the first two copies of "A Long Time Comin" by the Electric Flag. We brought it to the attention of the guys in the Electric Review, a Rogers horn band, I played flag tunes with them at the Howdy Dance our senior year. Ted Bachmann was in that band. It wouldn't have happened that way without David. He was highly intelligent,moral,kind and endlessly patient. Many years, many adventures. Good times, bad times, through it all he was my friend.

David was the kindest man I’ve ever known. An honest, smart lawyer, and old friend. I’ve been out of touch for several years since I left Tulsa, but worked with him many times, have been to Mexico with him and Patty a couple of times, and have many many good memories. This news has stunned me. The world has lost a good man.

David and Patty have been our dear friends for many years. They had a wonderful, loving marriage. In the years that I have known him, I have never seen David be anything but kind. He had the natural good manners and consideration of others of a true gentleman. He had an amazing mind and some knowledge of almost any topic. His specialty was popular music of the 60's and 70's. He never missed a question on that topic. We were honored to know him and we miss him very much.

My Uncle David was a kind man, he always made me feel loved and special. I think the most adventurous thing he may have ever done is to let his 16yearold niece drive his convertible Mercedes while he rode shotgun. I think I may have heard him squeal that day in delight or terror I still don't know. My heart is truly sorrowful and broken for my Aunt Pati, I love you both very much. Erin
