Preston McHenry, Jr. was born September 6, 1929 in Monroe, LA to Preston, Sr. & Ethel McHenry. He passed from this life December 27, 2019 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 90.
Preston served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He was a decorated Korean War veteran. Preston was a longtime member of Higher Dimensions Evangelistic Church, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He later joined, and remained a member of, St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He especially enjoyed Sunday School and faithfully drove to Okmulgee every week to attend services until his health did not allow. He loved his church and pastor, and many of his conversations included, “Pastor Rice said…”
Preston was employed as a computer programmer by Standard Oil of Indiana, which later became Amoco Corporation. He retired from Amoco, but maintained many of the friendships established there. Preston loved playing tennis and golfing. He loved to roller skate and thought he was a champion swimmer. He regularly watched sports on television, and would boisterously cheer on Golden State Warriors or Serena Williams. He also loved food and had an insatiable sweet tooth.
Preston is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Nicholas Culver, and five siblings. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children Allison Howard, Angela Williams, Antoinette Culver, and Preston McHenry III (Yvonne); his grandchildren Jua Howard, Ashley Taylor (Ramon), Adam Williams (Ashley), Miana McHenry, Aleaha, Amani, and Ariana Williams, Michael Alan McHenry; his great grandchildren Alivia, Rachel, William, Ryan, Morgan, Raegan, and Thomas Taylor; his sister Betty Steele; hosts of niblings and cousins, and friends.
Preston will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2 and his funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3 both at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home and Chapel. He will be laid to rest following the service at Park Grove Cemetery, Broken Arrow.
