Obituary of Richard Bauer

Richard John Bauer, known by his family and friends as Dick Bauer, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013. Dick was born in Cuba City, Wisconsin, on December 21, 1925, to Walter E. Bauer and Lela Gayle Skaife.
He is survived by his wife Vickie Elkins Bauer, son, Dr. Richard John Bauer, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, four grandchildren, Amy Willie of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Herridge of Waco, Texas, Katherine Dahlquist-Bauer and Joseph Dahlquist-Bauer of San Antonio, five great-grandchildren, brother, Don R. Bauer of Tulsa, three stepchildren, Gary Polk, Monica Belic, and Michael Polk, and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jo-Katherine Ogden Bauer, and his brother, Nathan E. Bauer.
He was a member of the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, enjoyed playing golf at Tulsa Country Club, and liked fishing, boating, and most sports activities. He was a graduate of Tulsa Central High School, attended Tulsa University, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Navy in the V-12 program. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he was employed for 38 years by Shell Oil Company where he rose from a junior engineer to be Vice President of Purchasing and General Services. His love was working in production either as an engineer or manager; he liked the oil patch.
He retired in Houston and moved to Tulsa in 1985. His favorite charities were the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
