Please share a memory of Eloise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eloise Adelle Evans was born on November 30, 1923 in St. Joseph, MO. She passed from this life on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 96.
When people described Eloise Evans it was always words like, amazing, kind, special, caring. Her patience was tried many times with a fiery husband, kids, and grandkids that were more than just a little head strong but her inner spirit to teach compassion, acceptance and the value of helping your fellow man always won out in the end.
Eloise was extraordinary in every extraordinary sense. A deeply sensitive yet remarkable child, loved by all, never fazed by the reality that her father abandoned their family. She did have a mother Kathryn (Mitchell) Spring, grandfather, grandmother, and sister that could see what a loving child with which they had been blessed. Her beautiful smile was so powerfully authentic it charmed even the coldest heart. She attended Washington Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School and Central High School, where she graduated in 1940. It is highly doubtful she ever had a harsh or unkind word for any of her classmates.
She married Gomer Evans in 1941 and moved to California for a time. But being true Okies, California wasn’t for them. They moved back to Tulsa and raised a family. Her life had a great tragedy, the loss of a child, but this did not make her bitter or consumed by the weight of grief, she continued on dedicated to raise three sons and one daughter and instill in them fierce independence along with the courage to empower them to follow their hearts.
She was never judgmental, always showing empathy for those damaged by the trials and tribulations of life in such a complicated world. All those that had the pleasure of having her in their life came to know a genuine sweetness that was like a great light shining across a dark, vast expanse. Now, that light has been extinguished but those of us who had the honor of warming ourselves in its glow are better people and forever grateful. Mom we love you and thank you for being so extraordinary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gomer A. Evans; a son, Gomer “Pat” Evans, Jr.; a daughter, Crystal Adelle Evans and a sister, Jeanette Bradley. She is survived by her children, Cathey Crow, Leo Evans and Curtis Evans all of Tulsa, OK; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
