I met Dorothy Corlett when I was a young girl visiting my grandparents in Tulsa. Dorothy really impressed me even though I was not very old. I was first struck by her happy nature and joyful laugh. I just liked being around her. She was the cousin of my mother’s best friend and my namesake, Louise Sortore. I would see her now and then while spending the summers in Tulsa. She would tell wonderful stories about my mother, Lucille Barber, and Louise. Mother and Louise obviously were fun-loving teenagers, and Dorothy never missed telling me the details of their adventures. She had a way with storytelling, and we would laugh uncontrollably at some of her descriptions of Mother and Louise’s shenanigans. She definitely had the gift of gab and a marvelous sense of humor.
I am so glad I did not lose touch with Dorothy and was able to visit with her, her daughter Janie and Janie’s husband Paul a few years ago. Hearing her voice always raised my spirits. She was just one of those gifted and loving persons so full of life. I treasure my memories of her. I know she will be missed by her family and so many friends.
