Dockie Lee Gammon was born in Boatman, OK on January 11, 1922, the daughter of Roy and Clara Stevens. Dockie passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the age of 91. Dockie graduated from Jenks High School at age 16 with an eye on a career in business. Being somewhat advanced in her thinking for that day and time, she, along with her sister, moved to Oakland, CA to attend Meritt Business College. Upon graduation, she was able to secure a secretarial position in San Francisco. After two years in California, she returned to Tulsa to marry her childhood sweetheart, Lewis Gammon. They were married for 63 years, having one son, Don, who lives in the San Francisco area. During her career, Dockie also worked for Sears as a Training Manager. However, her most rewarding position was with the Tulsa Public Schools as an administrator for several different elementary schools. It was there that a life-long passion developed for assisting under-privileged children and children with special needs. She became the Director of the Tulsa Association for Special Needs Children, serving in this position for 12 years. Dockie's husband, Lewis, preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Bonnie; two granddaughters, Erin and Morgan; one great-grandson, Parker; two nieces, two nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: The Eugene Field School Foundation, 2249 South Phoenix Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74107.
