Obituary of Avis Louise Davis

Please share a memory of Avis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Avis Louise Davis was born in Kansas City to James & Bessie Dunn on March 22, 1933 and departed this life in her home in Tulsa on February 17th, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, her baby boy, her siblings James, David, Elsie, Dot, & Ruby, and her dear husband Slayton Davis. She is survived by her sister Bonnie Eads of Florida; her children, Pamela Ciston, Dorothy Ridgway, and Bill & Nancy Davis; her grandchildren, Myles & Leslie Nix, Derrick & Jeanine Ratliff, Danny & Rebecca Felkins and Kyle & Jessica Davis; 11 great grandchildren, Owen, Josiah, Sethan, Sadie, Andrew, Akadia, Caroline, Zoe, Cora, Samuel, and Issac. Avis Dunn married Slayton Davis at the tender age of 15. The first time she saw him at her parents' restaurant, she said, “I’m going to marry that man!” They raised a family together moving between California, Kansas and Oklahoma. They settled in the Davis family home in Tulsa. After 42 years of marriage, her husband Slayton passed away. After this she learned to keep living. Eventually, she went on to get her GED and do other jobs, but she always missed him deeply. During the course of her life, she was always serving children in some capacity. From raising her own, to serving in the school cafeteria, to babysitting generations of children in her home, to teaching Sunday School classes, to her own grandchildren, to bus assisting for special needs children, and then her last job was a paraprofessional at Webster High School. Kids of many ages affectionately called her “Granny Avis,” and she loved them all. Avis was a great cook. She loved to crochet and garden. Most of all, she was a woman of faith! She attended Calvary Tabernacle where she worshiped faithfully, taught Sunday school, and volunteered for many other church functions. Though she wasn’t wealthy by the world’s standards, she was generous with every blessing God gave to her. Her family will always remember her legacy of faith in Jesus. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 19, at Calvary Tabernacle. She will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in a private service. Ninde Brookside, 918-742-5556, www.ninde.com
