Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Roberta Sutton was born on February 19, 1911 near Commerce, OK in Lincolnville, OK to Calvin and Minnie (Johnson) May. Roberta passed from this life at her home, and went to be with her Savior on Friday, June 21, 2013 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 102.
Roberta graduated from Quapaw High School in 1930. She moved to Tulsa when she was nineteen to be a nanny. She was a longtime member of the Tulsa Women's Christian Club. She was very active in the World War I Women's Auxiliary. She became a member of Evangelist Temple in the early 80's. She worked feverishly and maintained the most beautiful flower gardens, which she felt were like a fresh breath of life. She always talked about the sandy loam her grounds consisted of, and up until last summer was found watering every morning and evening. Independence bubbled up from her being, and she lived a long, fulfilling life doing things just the way she wanted. She never complained, and always wore a smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Everett Sutton, in 1965; sons, James Basil, Donald Everett, and Jerry Everett Sutton; brothers, Basil and Everett; sisters, Athene and Delphene; a grandson, Scott; and a great great grandson, Caleb. Roberta is survived by her son, Robert L. Sutton, of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Linda Adams, of Tulsa, Mitchell Sutton, of Tulsa, Shannon Parsons, of Owasso, Brandi Munoz, of Tulsa, and Tyler Sutton, of Tulsa; eight great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.
