Obituary of Betty Dorien Neafus
Betty Dorien (Potter) Neafus was born December 18th, 1927, in Wewoka, OK to Walter & Jessie Viola (Bryant) Potter and passed from this life December 9th, 2023, at the age of 95.
Betty married her husband, William H. Neafus, Jr. in Bentonville, AR on Jan. 21, 1949. Betty began her career at Jones Laughlin and then became a successful hair stylist in 1949 when her son, Ron, was born. At the age of 31, she began a long career at Rockwell, now Boeing, in Tulsa. Betty was fortunate to be able to retire early and continued to live a very active life. She was an avid golfer and a member of a local country club where she played several times per week until her early 90’s. She was equally passionate about OU sports, particularly OU Football. You could count on her watching the Sooners on Saturday with Herb and the Coffee’s. She was also quite the lucky gambler. I’m sure she took the River Spirit for all they were worth some weekends. She loved flowers, gardening and landscaping. As late as last Spring, she could be found planting flats of flowers in her flowerbed, as well as tending to her tomato plants in the backyard. She was also a phenomenal cook, baker, and was famous for her holiday noodles that everyone loved. She will be greatly missed by her husband, daughter, family & friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ronald J. Neafus; her sister-in-law, Johnnye Potter; her brother, Doyle Howerton; and her sister, Rita V. Ross. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, W.H. “Herb” Neafus, Jr. of Bixby; her daughter, Lisa Neafus (Heather Cottrill) of Bixby; her brother, Jack Potter of Tulsa; her half-sister, Karol Larke of Rockwall, Tx. Many nieces, cousins, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home Chapel.
