It is so very heartbreaking to lose such a sweet, honest, generous and lovely soul, while the world continues to strive to be more and more selfish and destructive.

Janet was my life long friend. She provided a base of friendship that can not be matched. She was quick with a joke, laugh, smile, and even a strong reminder when I did something wrong. That is what a friend such be able to do. In addition, Janet was part of my family. We had shared a life long journey together and had shared countless memories together. My immediate family was blessed when we were able to share a week together last summer with Janet and our other family members. Praise God that we had that opportunity. Boy does God know what he is doing! We will all miss Janet, but we know that she is in the loving arms of our heavenly father and that she is waiting to see all of us again, in God's time. God bless Janet!

Look Quick
Look quick!
Over by that tree,
by that shadow
She stands looking on,
Eyes bright,
with that crooked smile
A ready laugh,
despite sadness and pain
hidden not so deep
Look quick!
To be amazed,
to see God's handiwork
in someone so overlooked.
Someone who managed,
despite everything,
to work her way
into your heart,
into your life.
Look quick!
to know love
differently,
from a different
perspective,
from an unusual source;
with humor,
and wit,
and loyalty beyond the norm
Look quick!
To know
Because the chance
only lasts a lifetime.
And lifetimes aren't all that long.

I remember the first time I met Janet. She was, almost, like some character out of a Tolkien story...a small wizened woman, with bright eyes, a quick smile, and a big heart.
She taught me a lot. As a boy, she and my father, taught me to shoot a bow well. Something I love to this day. She taught me ping pong...and I rarely beat her, primarily I think, because she was a master at psychological gamesmanship. She introduced me to folk dancing which was just plain fun.
As I grew older and watched her, she taught me about going through life, even through pain and hardship, and she taught me about loyalty.
Janet was ubiquitous, she was there at camp, always, she was at one of my first dates with Shelley, she was at important events in our lives, and she shared our holidays. She would just pop up, in Norman, occasionally, ready to go out to eat. She helped my aunt a lot after my grandmother died, she was always there, always ready to be a part of what was going on. She loved movies, she loved eating out, and she loved being in the middle of what was going on.
Janet could be frustrating at times, but, her wit, and her love ALWAYS kept my frustration levels with her pretty low. I watched her, with great joy, treat my son, the same way she had treated me when I was a child, with love.
She cared deeply about others, she was always there to help when needed, and she lived her life with a grace that was mostly unseen. Despite her pain, despite the way others probably usually saw her, she was always true to herself, and true to the people important in her life.
Janet, you will forever be a part of who I am, and I am very grateful that I got to know you, as a teacher, as a friend, and as a member of my family. I will miss you, but I know one day, you'll come running up to tickle me, and to challenge me to a game of ping pong, or to lesson me on how to take the wind into consideration when aiming at a target, but mostly to show that love does indeed conquer all. I do not know what God does with animals that are important in our lives, but it is possible, maybe, that their is a little black dog in plaid that was pleased as all get out to see you again. I look VERY much forward to seeing you out of pain, and to see the love you so richly deserve just radiating in you, and through you, as our Father looks at you and smiles. That will be a GREAT day.
We will miss you dear friend, for a while, but we will see you again!
Thank you for all that you brought to our lives.
Steve

Oh Janet. Tears well as I think back to the Camp days and you rattling through the kitchen to run the snack bar with BC on your heels. All the campers knew you and BC. You loved the kids and took such good care of everyone. I saw when you thought no one was looking. Under that tough exterior was a tender heart. Sometimes you seemed so much older than I was..and sometimes I saw a young girl much like myself. You had many trials in life but you had faith and compassion..never resentful. I remember my dad got a kick out of your jokes. He would tell me the latest one you told him when I would come home from Texas to visit. I regret now I did not keep in better touch with you over the years. I thought we would share May birthdays a bit longer. But you are home now. There must have been a Rockstar welcome for you. You have blessed so many lives with your example. Please catch my dad up on your latest jokes. Cherishing your memory and celebrating your life...

My cousin Janet, It is awesome that Janet helped so many grow up at camp, including my sister Carla and me. It happened many moons ago for me, but I will always remember. I'm sure she provided many great memories for many people. Janet will be missed because of those great qualities. Rest in Peace in Heaven Janet

I remember Janet from Central High School where she participated in many organizations: Student Council, Girl's Recreation Association, and Chess Club to name just a few. She was always pleasant, witty and a pleasure to bump into in the halls of Central. She just didn't attend our 45th reunion but worked hard to make it a success. She honestly answered the question, "how have you been?" with a brief description of some of her health challenges of the past year. Then it was on to happier talk. As Marilyn and Lynne have noted she was making us laugh. She was a dear and will be missed by many.

I have known Janet for over 40 years. She taught me how to play ping pong, how to shoot a bow & arrow and a BB gun and how to braid lanyard. Samantha and I had fun growing up with her around - we couldn't wait to get taller than her! She took me fishing and rode along with me after I got my drivers permit to help me get more time behind the wheel. She loved her dog, "BC" dearly. She thought it was great that our birthdates were exactly 6 months apart. She loved Christmas and wearing her earmuffs all winter. She would gladly give anything she had to anyone in need. I miss her. She was my friend. I know she is whole now in Heaven.

Always knew God uses the years of camp in the live of many. But as His Thoughts are far above ours, so are His Ways. Camp Tak was for Janet. It gave her a place, a home, a purpose, which she fulfilled until the time He called to her Final Home. Most of all it gave her a huge blessing in such an extended family! Her gifts to each of you thru the many years of her calls, notes, the newsletters she helped us address, fold, mail, the trips to Wagoner for those that attended the Catholic Church, to the Doctor for those that got sick at camp, for medicines, likewise, and for the 100's of trips she made in the years of our family celebrations to pick up Cool Whip, cherries, all the other things I would forget- this is in your memory Janet. Know how much you are loved, until we meet again!

I am the coordinator for RSVP volunteers in Wagoner County and Janet volunteered tirelessly for so many things. She was so involved in our community. If she saw that I was in the office she would stop by for a visit. I had just seen her the week before. When I went to see her in the hospital or rehab, she always had me sneak in MnM's! Once when I went to see her in rehab, she had her joke book and kept us all laughing the whole time. She loved her trips to Fin N Feather, her church and her community. She had just called in her volunteer hours for July and was ready to get back to normal. I will miss her so much, her sense of humor, her energy. She has really been an inspiration to so many. There is no one else like Janet.

All the years have passed to quickly. Like the light of this candle, and the many last ight campfires in which we all shared, your light will continue to shine until we all meet again in the Last Best Place, our true home eternal, because of His Gift to us of Himself, so we may spend forever together with HIM.

Like Marilyn I had the opportunity to see Janet at our 45th high school reunion last month. At each of our gatherings she was always quick with a smile, a list of jokes to share, and looking forward to our next reunion event. She will indeed be missed. Sending thoughts and prayers to her family and many friends.
