Obituary of Roma Jo Wantuck
Roma Jo Seay Wantuck of Houston, TX, age 90, passed away on October 9th, 2024, and has joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Roma was a beloved and devoted Wife, Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She loved being around friends and will be remembered for her glowing smile and friendly face to whomever she might meet. She loved her family and always held dear the precious time spent with them.
Roma was born July 12th, 1934, in Tulsa, OK, to Joe and Ervel Seay. She lived in Tulsa for 22 years and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in May 1952. She graduated from the University of Tulsa in May 1956 with a B.S. in Business Administration. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Lantern Honor Society. She met her future husband, Bill Wantuck, in March 1953, and they were married on October 20th, 1956.
Roma moved to South Louisiana for Bill’s employment with Gulf Oil. Roma worked as a secretary in the Dean’s Office at LSU in New Orleans and Conoco Oil in Morgan City, LA. She moved to Houston in 1961, where she worked for Exxon Corp. Her career days stopped just before having their first child, David, in 1964 and second child, Jody Marie, in 1967. She attended Westbury Methodist from 1961-1979 and later, in 1979, joined Bethel Independent Presbyterian Church. She was the President of the Ladies Bible Study at Bethel from 1983 to 1984 and was active in various committees. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for five years. She was a member of the Houston Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association and the Society of Petroleum Engineers Auxiliary. She was awarded the “Spirit Award” for promoting the Spirit of Friendship at the USS Montrose Navy Reunions. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends in Tulsa, OK, and their many summers spent with friends in Breckenridge, CO. Roma and Bill moved to Eagle’s Trace Retirement Community, Houston, in 2010 and enjoyed living there and making new friends. After living in Houston for many decades, she and Bill moved to Waltonwood Cotswold Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC to be near their daughter.
Roma was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wantuck, and parents, Joe and Ervel Seay. Roma is survived by her son, David Wantuck and wife, Susan of Houston, TX; and grandson, Travis; daughter, Jody Dyke, and husband, Jeff Dyke of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters Ashley and Erin; great-granddaughter, Carlyle.
A family memorial and graveside service will be held in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org, or a charity of choice.
