Pinkie Jones, 91, Tulsa University Adjunct Professor of Communications passed from this life on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Inverness Village Health Center.
Pinkie was born to William Abner and Wilhelmina Fredericka (Schneider) Wickersham in Melbourne, Iowa on June 29, 1922. She attended high school in Iowa.
After graduation from high school she attended the University of Iowa and received her Bachelor's of Arts in 1942 majoring in Radio and Communications. Pinkie met and married Rod Jones on June 9, 1944. She began her teaching career as a high school teacher in Iowa, Colorado and California, she was a teacher of Radio at the Alabama State College for Women, after moving to Tulsa she was an Adjunct Professor of Communications and Children Theater at the University of Tulsa. While living in Tulsa she was associated with a wide variety of civic clubs and organizations which include her affiliation as a Girl Scout leader, officer and board member of the city wide PTA. Pinkie was actively involved with the Tulsa City County Library where she was the creator and producer of the Buddy Bookworm weekly Television show from 1958-1960. Pinkie was an Ambassador for the Library presenting programs for Friends of the Library at different retirement centers in Tulsa. She was involved in and a member of the Tulsa Shakespeare Club, Tulsa Garden Center and the Tulsa University Faculty Women Organization. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Rod of the home, a son, Jay Jones of Citrus Heights, California, a daughter, Jan Childress of Jenks. Two grandchildren and three great grandchildren, her sister, Winifred Thompson of Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tom Wickersham.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations in her memory be made to the Children's Department, Tulsa Public Library, 400 Civic Center ~ Tulsa, OK 74103
