Obituary of N. L. Gregory
Please share a memory of N. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
N. L. "Greg" Gregory was born on November 11, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to Wallace and Eula (Nierman) Gregory. He passed from this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the age of 82.
He graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City and graduated from Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO where he was a member of TKE. After graduation, he served in the Army, attending OTS and served in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from Southwestern Bell but was too young to enjoy retirement! He also owned Villa de Pizza on Sheridan Road, which he later turned into a "Go Go Bar" named the "Red Baron" complete with go go dancers! He and his wife loved to dance and also enjoyed membership in the Tulsa Young Men's Club and Candlewood Club. He and his family loved to water ski and spent time on Tenkiller Lake teaching all three of his children to water ski. He later bought a pontoon boat and the family used to "camp out" on the lake. He was creative and made bunk beds for the boys and a cot for his daughter. A king size bed, of course, for himself and his wife! He was also quite a handy man, building cabinets, a storage shed and an "outhouse" by the pool.
After retirement, he sold Yellow Page ads for competing vendors, sold insurance and worked at Miss Jackson's helping in shipping and delivery of the boutique fashions. At the age of 82, he still had to do things his way and continued to clean the pool, do yard work and paint the outside of his home, with his wife and children telling him NOT to do that as he had health problems. He fell Sunday afternoon flat on his back on the pool deck, injuring his head and his bad hip. He decided to take a nap before going to the hospital. He was an unruly patient, but the nurses loved him. His death was unexpected and sent the family into shock.
Greg is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gayle; 3 children, Kirk David, Keith Bryan and Kristen Jill, who also presented him with 6 grandchildren: Jake, Abbey, Katelyn, Gregory, Jeffery and Alexandra Gregory. Abbey and Gregory also gave him the honor of great grandfather, each with one girl, Anna and Taylor.
Greg was a rather quiet man but could easily meet people and could be hilarious with his quick remarks! He was a kind, sweet, dear man and was looked up to by many of his children's friends, his co-workers and his and his wife's friends. He will be missed by many for years to come. We will have our memories of a wonderful man.
A service celebrating Greg's life will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with a reception to follow.
