Obituary of Lois Woodson
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Velma Woodson was born on January 21, 1924 in Pawhuska, OK to William "Bill" and Velma "Shug" Woodson. She passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the age of 87.
Lois graduated from Pawhuska High School and Oklahoma State University. She completed an additional sixty hours at the University of Oklahoma in Petroleum Chemistry. She taught school in Bixby and Tulsa while completing education in Business at Tulsa Business College. She then began a business career with Tidewater, a petroleum company in Tulsa and later moved to Amerada-Hess where she retired in 1984.
Lois enjoyed extensive traveling throughout the world and was active in literary and golfing circles. Her interest in archaeology and anthropology took her on many adventurous trips. She really enjoyed being able to take her trips, especially during the past 5 years. One of her last trips was with Carol Eames and the group who went to the Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas last April. Also she enjoyed the Status Club day trip to see the Christmas lights in Tulsa and Bartlesville in 2010.
Mondays were important. She would meet her girlfriends at Promenade Mall where they all would walk, talk and have coffee. Wednesdays were dedicated to Cecelia and the ladies that would be having their hair done. Fridays was set aside for Panera Bread where she would meet the "Walkers/Aerobic" group for coffee and chatting. Lois would go to the Homebuilder's Class at First Christian Church on Sundays where she was a longtime active member and then have lunch with Libby. She lived everyday surrounded by friends and therefore, love.
She was active in many local organizations including being a "Gillie" at The Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa Zoo Friends, Tulsa Archaeology Society, Oklahoma Anthropology Society, Friends of the Tulsa Library and the Nature Conservancy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joan; a brother-in-law, Robert Bennett and Juanita Hull, her lifetime friend. She is survived by many cousins including the one who has always been a part of her life, George Graham and his wife, Gail; her "nieces and nephew" Sylvia Hill, Sherry and Alan Snow whom she considered a few of her dearest friends. Lois was very loved by all and will be missed.
Donations in her memory may be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, Gilcrease Musem, Friends of the Tulsa Library or Tulsa Zoo Friends.
