Obituary of Granvel Mays

On Saturday, August 18, 2007, Granvel Jardine Mays of Tulsa left this world to be with Jesus, a transition he had been looking forward to for many years. He left this world at age 76 after a sudden illness and a brief struggle in the hospital. This loving man will be deeply missed by his family and friends, all of whom believe that he has gone to a better home. Granvel was born April 21, 1931 in Dallas and moved to Tulsa with his family at age three. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1949, and in 1950 married Joan Lee Teel (Will Rogers class of 1950). He served in the US Navy from 1954-1956, and graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1961. He worked for Exxon for 31 years in Houston and other cities, retiring August 1, 1992. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma, where they were members of First Christian Church, and where Granvel was active in the Rotary Club. They moved back to Tulsa in 2003, where they had been members of Christ Presbyterian Church since 1998. Granvel was active in the Green Country Woodworkers and the Scrollsaw Association. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, August 21, 2007 from 6-8 p.m., and the Celebration Service will be Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 10 a.m. both will be held at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial in Tulsa., interment Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make donations to the Alliance Defense Fund, PO Box 53007, Phoenix, AZ 85072, the Boy Scouts of America 4295 S Garnett Rd, Tulsa, OK 74146, or their charities of choice.
