Obituary of Mae Wright

Please share a memory of Mae to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wright, Mae Vowell, 89, was called home to be with God, in heaven and once again see her husband, Steve and a number of relatives and friends she had over her rich 89 years of laughing and sharing. Mrs. Wright was born September 4, 1918 in Jonesboro, AR the daughter of William Henry and Annie (Johnsey)Vowell and grew up in Jackson, TN. She married Stephen Marshall Wright in July 1937 who preceded her in death in 1972. They lived in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina before moving to Tulsa in 1953. Tulsa was home and she was always glad to return home after her many frequent travels. After she, her husband and their three boys settled in Tulsa she quickly joined in community and church activities. For years she worked with the United Methodist Women and AARP, but the highlight of her volunteer time was helping the young people who came to the library at First United Methodist Church. Many of them, now with families of their own, affectionately called her "Miss Mae". She spent time with them, and they and their parents still remember. She also used her singing and piano talent to bring smiles and joy to special needs young people at Children's Medical Center. Survivors: her sons, Stephen Marshall Wright, Jr. and his wife Judith of Tulsa, William Stanley Wright and his wife Lily of Tacoma, WA and Hawaii and Charles B. Wright of Kansas City, MO; Seven Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren. Services will be 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 23 in the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family requests that memorials be made the First United Methodist Church Library Fund, 1155 S. Boulder, Tulsa, OK 74119.
