Obituary of Mary Good

Author, editor, photographer and history enthusiast, Mary Elizabeth Good died December 18 at the age of 77. Daughter of Marshall L. and Elizabeth Edwards, A native Tulsan, attended Will Rogers High School and The University of Tulsa where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Her award winning photograph of a child looking at the statue of Will Rogers was placed in the Tulsa Public Schools. Good retired as the 20-year editor of PROOFS magazine, for PennWell Publishing and previously worked in public relations for Seismograph Service Corporation, Thomas Gilcrease Museum and the Tulsa Philharmonic Society. Good was an active in the Tulsa Archeological Society and Oklahoma Anthropological Society, winning the Crabtree Award for Avocational Archaeology in 1993. She was an avid researcher, photographer and writer on early Oklahoma history. Her books on American Indian glass trade beads in American archeological sites are well known. Mary Elizabeth and her husband of 50 years, Lee T. Good, who died in 1998, founded the Osage Territory Muzzleloaders Club in the 1950's and were active in the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. Her articles and photographs were published in many magazines and newspapers, including Muzzle Blast, Gilcrease Gazette magazine and the Tulsa World. She was a member of First Christian Church, Tulsa, her entire life. She is survived by daughter, Alyne Eiland and husband Craig; their children Brandon Eiland and Afton Strate and great granddaughter Kayla Eiland; her son Clyde Good and wife Denise along with their children, Andrew and Katie Good; and son Martin Good with wife Charla and children Jonathan, Joshua, Jordann and Laura Good. Viewing begins Thursday, December 20 at Ninde Woodlawn Funeral Home (918-728-8500) with visitation with the family from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday. Services will be Friday, December 21 at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to their favorite organization.
