Elizabeth Glen (Boynton) Mitchell, 99, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Tulsa, OK. She was the widow of Albert H. Mitchell, who died in 1979, a retired director of the Carter Oil Company, an ExxonMobil affiliate. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Shawnee in 1908, the daughter of Tempe Glenn and Jean Shaw Boynton, pioneer Oklahomans. Her maternal grandfather was a territorial judge based in Guthrie. She attended Stephens College, Columbia, MO. From the time of her marriage in Tulsa in 1930, she was active in civic affairs. She was on the board of directors of the Babies Milk Fund, president of the Junior Association of the Tulsa Boys Home, and president of the Central High School PTA. While she was active in the Boys Home, she was chairman of the Tulsa Charity Horse Show in its early years. She was a devoted member of the Stephens College Alumnae Club and a dedicated volunteer for the MS Society. She and her husband loved to travel and she continued traveling after his death. One of her most vivid memories of their travels was climbing up a rope ladder on the side of a ship in the harbor of Barcelona, Spain, while carrying a bouquet of flowers dripping water into her shoes. One of her last trips was to Egypt and Saudi Arabia to visit her daughter. She was preceded in death by her brother, James F. Boynton and his wife, Margaret, of Shawnee, and her sister Jeanne Boynton Field, and her husband, Vernon C. Field, of Southern Pines, NC. She is survived by her son, Dr. David G. Mitchell and his wife, Patricia, of Tulsa; her daughter, Alberta Phayer and her husband, Joseph C., of Landrum, SC; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel 2:00 PM Monday, February 11. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tulsa ASPCA, 2910 Mohawk Blvd, Tulsa, OK 74110, or Stephens College, Renaissance Fund, Development and Alumnae Relations, 1200 E. Broadway, Box 2035, Columbia, MO 65215.
