Obituary of Doris Long

Doris Veldean Long was born July 9, 1923, in Seneca, MO. to Roy and Leata (Smith) Crossley, the second eldest of nine children. Doris died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the age of 84. She was raised on a farm in Seneca and graduated from eighth grade. She married Lawrence W. Long on June 15, 1947, in Tulsa, OK, where they raised three children. Lawrence preceded her in death on May 15, 1976, and daughter, Gail, on April 29, 1985. Doris was a homemaker while her children were young. Later, she worked at the Daugtenhaun Laundry & Dry Cleaners, was a sales clerk for several years at Froug's Department Store, made draperies with Dorothy McDonald, and was a seamstress for B&H Alterations for many years until her retirement in 2001. Doris and her husband were charter members of Berean Baptist Church. She taught Sonbeams (a Wednesday night children's program) for many years. She loved the Lord and taught her children and grandchildren to love Him, as well. Doris was known for her sweet, gentle spirit and her feisty wit. In later years, assisted by her cane, she was always ready to "run you a race!" In addition to her husband and one daughter, Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Crossley; sister, Lyla Stoffel; twin baby granddaughters; and one baby great-grandchild. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Sharon & Ron Klingaman, of Stillwater, and son & daughter-in-law, Gary ("G. W.") & Sue Ann Long, of Tulsa; nine grandchildren & their spouses: Krysta & Tim Rains, of Yukon, Dustin Long, Denton Long, Delana Long, all of Tulsa, Deanna & Joel Dobbins, of Garland, TX, Cara & Jeff Thomas, Hank Grant, all of Tulsa, Chad Klingaman, of Orlando, and Nichole & Brian Vogel, of Marshall; fifteen great-grandchildren: Devin Long, of Collinsville, Roxanna Long, Destiny & Gavin Long, all of Tulsa, Shelby & Summer Dobbins, of Garland, TX, Lacelyn, Alyssa & Madyson Rains, of Yukon, Blake Vogel, of Marshall, Sean, Courtney, Elizabeth, Aaron & Emily Thomas, all of Tulsa; five brothers & their spouses: Ralph Crossley, of Inola, Myrl & Bonnie Crossley, of Davis, Howard & Irene Crossley, of Torrance, CA, Bruce & Audrey Crossley, of Fountain, CO, Dale & Betty Crossley, of Sapulpa; and one sister & her spouse: Phyllis & Duane West, of Sapulpa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 39th & So. Peoria. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Berean Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Crews officiating.
