Joy Webb was born March 27th, 1923 in Chanute KS to Harold and Ethyl (Woodward) Williams. She passed from this life Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the age of 84.
She graduated from Chanute High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia KS before quitting to join the WAVES (Womens' Naval Corp) during WWII. During the war she was trained as a storekeeper and was stationed in a number of places including Olathe, KS, New York City, and Milledgeville, GA. After the war she attended business college in Kansas City and later worked as a bookkeeper for Emory, Byrd, Thayer Department store. In 1951 while living in Kansas City she met the love of her life, Presley Webb. They were married in 1952 and lived a short time in Mountainburg, Ark before returning to Chanute where they raised their family and lived for the next 45 years. In 1999 they moved to Tulsa to be closer to family.
Her favorite times were those spent with her close and loving family. She also loved music and one of her favorite activities was singing with the choir at their Woodland Terrace Retirement Community. She always had a smile on her face, a laugh at the ready, and a song in her heart. Her sweet, sweet, spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Presley; her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Legitt, Dorothy Gary Stice; son and daughter-in-law, David and Gina Webb; granddaughters, Andrea Penner, DeAnne Wilson and her husband, Michael, Becky Lopez and her husband, Chris, Sarah Webb, Hannah Webb; grandson, David Webb; great granddaughters Donna (DJ) Rhiney and Roxanne Sanchez.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel followed by private burial.
