Wilma Lorene Hobson was born June 23, 1924 in Barnsdall, OK to Clifford Cecil and Gayla Fay (McMasters) Jones. She passed from this life Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the age of 83.
She was a graduate of Lenapah, OK High School and attended Northeastern A&M College in Miami, OK. During World War II, Wilma worked for Douglas Aircraft as a "Rosie the Riveter" building planes. Following the war, she was working in the Greyhound Bus Depot when she met Claud E. Hobson. They were married June 23, 1946 in Sand Springs, OK. She continued to work after they were married at Walgreen's Drug Store before becoming a full-time mother. She also helped her husband start Claud's Hamburgers which they operated for many years prior to his death in 1990. The Hobson family still runs Claud's Hamburgers after more than 50 years in Brookside.
Wilma was always very active in the churches she attended, working in the nursery on Sundays and teaching Bible School. She was a founding member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Mannford, something she was particularly proud of. She coordinated the nursery department in the beginning and worked in the nursery for many years. Wilma was always an avid reader and with her love of books, she started the library at Lakeside Baptist Church. She was active in the "prayer chain" and often volunteered to help provide food for anyone dealing with illness or going through difficult times. She also volunteered to coordinate the distribution of government commodities to the needy in the Mannford area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud. She is survived by her children, Eugene, Jerry, Cliff, Larry, Nancy and Robert.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm Thursday at Ninde Woodland Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday, March 7, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
