Claassen, Harold F age 95, retired Civil engineer for the Corps of Engineers, died Sunday, October 16, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Ninde Woodland Chapel with Rev. Ed Bateman of First United Methodist Church officiating, burial will be in the family plot in the Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the L.D. Thomas Fund in care of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Claassen was born on September 30, 1910 to John G. and Marie (Ensz) Claassen in Newton, Kansas. He attended local schools in Newton graduating from high school in 1929. After graduation he attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas and then attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1938 with an engineering degree.After graduation he enlisted with the United States Army attaining the rank of Corporal upon his discharge on December 17, 1945. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Tulsa where here resumed his 35 year career with the Corps of Engineers as a Civil Engineer. He and Dorothy Buchanan were united in marriage on September 3, 1949 in Tulsa and have made their home here since. Mr. Claassen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sertoma Club and a Red Cross Volunteer. He is survived by wife Dorothy of 56 years, daughter; Cheryl Claassen and her partner Marilyn Smith and their daughter Janeli of Boone, North Carolina, two sisters; Dorothy Stucky of Mound Ridge, Kansas and Edith Loewen of North Newton, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eric Claassen.
