Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maner, Curtis Jack, 81, of Tulsa, passed from this life on Monday, June 30, 2008. Jack was born on October 4, 1926 in Waxahatchie, TX to his parents, Curtis Jessup and Helen B. (Forsyth) Maner. Jack grew up in Waxahatchie, TX where he played the trombone in the band and was a valued member of his high school swimming and diving team. After graduating from Waxahatchie High School in 1944, Jack joined the Army and served as infantryman stationed in the Philippines. Jack played in the military band for the remainder of the war and as a member of the band played at the surrender ceremony ending the conflict in the Philippines. As a part of that band, Jack was one of the first Americans to play in Japan after the war. At his grandmothers' request, Dwight D. Eisenhower himself inquired into, and reported back, concerning Jack's bout with malaria. The Greatest Generation has lost another Veteran who ensured the freedoms we enjoy today. After discharge, Jack attended SMU and received his BA in music. Jack taught band at schools in both Arkansas and Tulsa. Eventually Jack became an insurance adjuster, which led to his discovery of his life's vocation - law. While working full-time Jack attended TU Law School at night where many life long friendships were created. He graduated from The TU School of Law in 1965. He worked initially for an insurance defense law firm but eventually became a well know Plaintiff's Defense Lawyer where he spent the rest of his career. Jack was a dedicated, compassionate, caring man with a commanding presence in the courtroom. Jack was well respected by both clients and peers. His mother, father, and Mary Sue Maner preceded Jack in death. He is survived by his wife, Shelba, of the home; 2 sons, Greg Maner and Chris Maner; a stepdaughter, Valarie Smith and her husband Red; grandchildren, Jeff, C.J., Garrett, Kristen, Michael, Matt Maner, and Kristin Martindale. Special thanks to the support of Infinity Care of Tulsa. Contributions may be made in Jack's memory to Infinity Care of Tulsa. Memorial service 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, Ninde Brookside Chapel. 918-742-5556
