Obituary of Wanda Fowler

Wanda L. Fowler was born February 22, 1927 in Cushing, OK to Marion and Zoe (Blair) Blackburn. She passed from this life Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the age of 81. She was a graduate of Cushing High School and attended the University of Tulsa. She was co-founder of Anchor Paint Mfg. Co. and was a firm but fair businesswoman with a wonderful sense of humor and sense of compassion, yet ornery when given the opportunity. She was mentor, counselor and advisor to family, friends and employees. Wanda was member of First United Methodist Church and contributed generously to their missions projects; she was past member of the YWCA and the YWCA Board, receiving their Angel Award; she was member and past president of ABWA; and, she was the first recipient of the Pinnacle Award. She also served on the Board of the Assistance League of Tulsa; Camp Fire Girls; The Nature Conservancy; the Better Business Bureau; Woolaroc Advisory Board and Philbrook Museum of Art Board. Wanda was also a faithful contributor to the Boy Scouts of America; Christian Counseling Center in Florida; the Miss Oklahoma Pageant; JDRF; Multiple Sclerosis Society; Tulsa Public Schools, Tulsa City/County Library; and, numerous educational scholarship funds. Wanda gave compassionately of herself and her resources, many times anonymously. Her generous heart and spirit touched many individuals and organizations. Wanda, known to her family as "GG" and everyone's "Mother Wanda," was preceded in death by her husband Emerson Fowler in 1993; her parents; and, her brothers, Albert Lee Blackburn, Gayle Blackburn, Gene Blackburn, Lewis Blackburn, Dr. Robert Blackburn. Wanda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Voight; son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Holly Meade; grandchildren, Monica Voight-Klein, Justin Meade and his wife, Leslie; great grandchildren, Gunnar Klein and Piper Meade; her sisters, Rena Hall, Mary Ellen Arnce and Wilma Babiak as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to First United Methodist Church Missions, 1115 S.
