Tulsa mourns the loss of a very esteemed citizen, Ms. Kathaleen Hand, 89. She was called home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009, after a 2 year illness. She was very lovingly cared for at the Cottage Nursing Home and looked after by the angels of Hope Hospice who provided the most comfortable final days possible. Ms. Hand was born in Coffeyville, KS, to the late Albert J. and Emma S. (Mohr) Collins. She was a resident of north Tulsa for more than 50 years. She attended the Louis Avenue Assembly of God church serving as the Church Secretary and Sunday School Treasurer for 43 years. She enjoyed playing old hymns on the piano for the church. She witnessed to many people through the years being a true prayer warrior, praying with and for people in need. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Springdale Senior Lunch program where she enjoyed fellowship with many north Tulsa residents. When she sold her home on North St. Louis Street in 2007, she moved to the Cornerstone Independent Living Apartments on North Yale where she once again enjoyed lunching with most of her pals from Springdale. She looked forward to playing dominos after lunch and participating in the weight loss club and various activities provided for the residents there. Her favorite activity of the day was talking on the telephone. She spent many hours on the telephone reaching out to anyone who had a few moments to spare. Her calls will truly be missed by many. Ms. Hand was a long time Shaklee dealer. She sold those vitamins right up until her death. Funeral services will be held at the Ninde Funeral Home, 3841 S. Peoria, Tulsa, OK, at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009. Her favorite minister of the gospel, Reverend Rodger Boyette, will officiate. Burial and graveside services for Ms. Hand will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS. Ms. Hand was one of thirteen children and was preceded in death by her five brothers, Yvon William Collins, Roland Adolph Collins, Albert John Collins, Wilder Willard Collins, and her six sisters, Louise Josephine Harding, Fairy Lillian Ferguson, Pearl Emma McKellips, Doreatha Lucille Moon, Clarabel Marie Keleher, Phyllis Jeanette Crossman, and Shirley May Beck. She has one living sibling, her brother Daniel Grant Collins, in Seattle Washington, and a parcel of nieces and nephews scattered about the country. Although she never had children of her own, she loved many of God's children. Ms. Hand was a quiet, reserved woman. She loved to help anyone in need and was always ministering to everyone who would listen. She had a listening ear and a prayer for whoever she came in contact with. She touched many souls and will truly be missed by all.
