Obituary of Ruby Borchers

Ruby Elvera (Erickson) Borchers was born January 4, 1915 in Valley Springs, SD, to J. Oscar and Helma (Eckstrom) Erickson. She attended elementary school in Valley Springs, and her final three years of high school in Beaver Creek, MN, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She was united in marriage to Clarence Henry Borchers on March 17, 1934 in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union were added three children, Carol Jean and Verlynn Eugene by adoption, and Robert Clarence. Ruby attended the Lutheran Church in Valley Springs until her marriage, following that the Pleasant View Evangelical United Brethren Church near Luverne, MN where she and her husband resided and farmed. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1942. She taught Sunday School classes both at Valley Springs and Pleasant View, was a musician, playing piano, organ, accordion and guitar, as well as being a soloist and participating in various choirs. She enjoyed reading, walking, working crossword puzzles, and sewing. In the early 1950s the couple answered a call to the ministry, sold their farm and moved to Sioux Falls, SD where they began Bible College and eventual life of ministry. Ruby was a faithful helpmeet and did whatever she was called upon to do in the various churches they served. The family lived in several places in Kansas, until the summer of 2002 when she moved to the Tulsa area to be near her son. For many years she was the "Nana" for the Berger family, who were very special people in her life. At the age of 94 years she passed away on February 24, 2009, in the Grace Living Center, Jenks, OK, where she had been a resident since July of 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1977, her parents, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, her son Robert Clarence, a son-in-law Richard Krenz , and a grandson Steven Krenz. She is survived by her children: Carol Jean Krenz of Washington, KS; Verlynn Borchers and wife Rene of Jenks, OK; daughter-in-law Peggy Borchers of Plains, KS; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many friends. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb 28 at the Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal, Kansas with interment to follow at the Kismet Cemetery, Kismet, Kansas.
