No Matter What Tina Platt Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 3:11pm · No matter what I could always get a smile from you. It’s what I do. Until that day you had no smiles left. Just a weak, frail voice saying “That’s my love. I look in your eyes as I always have and try to find the light. Dimmer every time. I stroke your face as a mother would as you always did and try to feed you my energy. Willing strength to come to you from my hand touching your face. From my eyes filled with love. The way I always drew strength from you and your hand touching my face and your eyes filled with love. I pray, meditate, focus on a peaceful end to a turbulent life.

My grandmother was the most gentle, beautiful soul I have ever met. She could be strict when needed, but was always ready to laugh and crack a joke. A strong woman, she survived hard times with quiet grace and her love for her family was her comfort and pride. We wrote letters back and forth during the year I lived in Midland and it meant so much to us both. My favorite story is that my grandfather was driving a wagon with his Dad and saw my grandmother walking down the way. He turned to his father and said "I'm gonna marry that girl." And he did. I remember sleeping over on 'pallets' on the floor - her delicious cooking - her amazing ability to sew, by hand, beautiful clothes and quilts. She cared for her mother and for anyone in need. She was the definition of a good Christian woman, and her gentle loving spirit will be with me always.

I will always remember all the fun times my grandma and I had together. From the time I was little she got me hooked on her “stories. I can’t believe Victor (Young & Restless) is still alive after all these years. I’ll Swan! When I got old enough to start going to school (and had to miss my stories), every day after school when I got to grandma and grandpa’s house, she had a “num-num waiting on me. Now you might think I’m talking about a cookie, or even a piece of cake, but you would be wrong. A “num-num was a full meal, and if I was lucky it would be fried fish and fried potatoes, but that was just a little something meant to get me by until I went home and had dinner. I learned a lot of things from my grandma, including how to make a dress. Once, after purchasing the most beautiful fabric, I spread it out on the floor and handed her the scissors. When she asked me where my pattern was, I lay on top of the fabric and asked her to cut around me so we could sew it together. You can only imagine how hard she laughed at that notion. She loved telling that story many times over. We all loved her very much and are grateful for the 90 years she had on this earth. We all have a lot of fond memories of her to keep with us now and forever. With that, I’ll share an inspirational quote and hope that instead of being sad that she’s gone, we can all reflect on and cherish the memories we have of her. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. -Pericles

To the family of Jeneth Schweitzer, I don't know if you remember me or not. I am Karen Cornish and I lived next door to you when you were on Irvington. I read of your mother's death and just wanted to let you know how sorry I am. It has been years since I have seen any of you, but I remember her as being a loving, helpful person. Even after the family moved, she was kind enough to help me out with a sewing project for home ec that I thoroughly messed up! My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time. She was a lovely lady.
