Obituary of Glenn Haswell
Please share a memory of Glenn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenn Lee Haswell, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., age 69, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 30 after a sudden illness. A perinatologist and gifted healer who brought life to countless babies, Glenn touched many lives through his calling as a physician and teacher.
Born May 19, 1941 in Oklahoma City, son of Andrew "Bud" Jordan Haswell and Margaret Leore Morgan, Glenn practiced medicine for nearly 40 years in Kansas City, Omaha and finally Tulsa before retiring in 2005 from his private practice, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Inc. He served on the staff at St. John Medical Center up until his retirement. He also served on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma Medical School where he trained and guided students in the disciplines of obstetrics, gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.
A faithful Christian, Glenn blessed the lives of all who knew him with his testimony of faith and strength. He was a survivor of two kidney transplants in his lifetime -- the most recent 15 years ago, a gift from his brother Andrew Haswell of Oklahoma City, to whom many will always be indebted. He used his 69 years to serve his community, his church and his God.
Glenn graduated from DePauw University in 1963 where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and went on to graduate from George Washington University Medical School in 1967. He was board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. In 1981, he established the initial Maternal-Fetal Medicine program at St. John Medical Center where under his guidance it grew to serve patients in Oklahoma, Southern Kansas, Western Arkansas and Southern Missouri. Glenn also was a Fellow in the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and a member of the American Medical Association and Tulsa County Medical Society
He is survived by his beloved wife Pat, sons Christopher Haswell and wife Holli of Round Rock, TX, Stephen Haswell of Boston, MA, Matthew Haswell of Nagoya, Japan and stepson Merritt Johnson of Aspen, CO. Glenn is survived by his only brother, Andrew Haswell and his wife Barbara Bonner, and three nieces. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Glenn's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8 at First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, OK. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. John Medical Center for the compassionate care Glenn received in his final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The National Kidney Foundation serving Oklahoma (http://www.kidneyok.org) or The Joshua Fund (http://www.joshuafund.net).
