Obituary of Marcy Thompson
Please share a memory of Marcy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On March 4, 1954 Marcy Knierim Thompson was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Knierim in Muskogee, OK. Marcy passed from this life on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the age of 56. An only child, Marcy was her families' pride and joy. Marcy graduated Muskogee High School in 1972 where she excelled in academics and was a cheerleader. She received her BS Degree in Accounting from Oklahoma State University and was initiated in to the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. While studying at OSU, Marcy met her husband, Doug, and the two were married on December 27, 1975. The couple relocated to Houston, and Marcy worked as a Joint Venture Accountant with Occidental Petroleum. In 1980 the Thompsons returned to Tulsa where Doug began working with his family business, Southwest Filter Co. and Marcy went to work for Samson as a Joint Venture Accountant. She actively gave back to her community by volunteering with Junior League, Tulsa Boys' Home, Junior Opera Guild and many other organizations. Although her professional and community work kept her busy, her most important role came in October, 1985 when she became a mother for the first time to her son, Adam, and again in April, 1988 to daughter, Amanda. Nothing gave her greater joy than raising her children and being a "golf and cheer mom". Marcy was a dedicated OSU Cowboys fan and remained loyal to them through thick and thin, traveling across the country to cheer on her Pokes. A long time member of First Christian Church, she loved her Sunday School class and will be dearly missed by all in the Patrian Class. Her father, George Knierim and her mother and stepfather Mary and Fred Fleak preceded Marcy in death. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Thompson, son Adam Thompson, daughter Amanda Thompson, mother-in-law Claudean Thompson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Claudia Harveth and niece Erin, all of Tulsa. She is remembered with love by all who knew her. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7PM Thursday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A memorial service and reception will be held 11:00AM Friday, December 3 at First Christian Church, 913 S. Boulder Ave. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3015 E. Skelly Dr., #221A, Tulsa, OK 74105 -or- www.MDAUSA.org.
