I have so many wonderful memories of Don that it's hard to narrow down to one favorite story. He was the best neighbor, friend, father-figure, and fisherman I knew. He never failed to make me laugh until I cried. He became such an important part of our family. The holidays spent with us and the kids, how he taught them to fish on our TOO short trip to Oklahoma, New Years Eves at Bingo.. The love he gave even to our dog.. I can still see him proudly in his chef's hat at the club, he truly was the King at that place and we were so proud to be in his presence! We will all miss him miserably as he brightened our lives and touched us so deeply.. We love you Don and know you are up there catching the 'big one' and frying him up too!

I have many great memories of Don but I think my favorite of him is going up to the lake for the day and him cooking a big meal that he had caught earlier in the day. I would stuff myself with his wonderful cooking and of course get sleepy. I would get in his chair and be out like a light!! Being the wonderful man that he was....he would get "my blanket" as he called it out and cover me up! I always thought that to be very sweet. I couldn't have asked for a better Brother-in-Law. I will miss him dearly.

I will always remember visiting him at work growing up. Every time he would take me to the back into the freezer and show me the big bricks of real chocolate and break off a chunk for me and it was the best chocolate I have ever had.
I also will never forget growing up with him he always had to have his cookies & cream ice cream. When I was a little girl I remember my mom telling me it was time to go to bed and PaPa would say " We gotta have our ice cream first ". We would sit down with two spoons and the bucket of ice cream and eat it together and it became a nightly tradition. He also started the ice cream tradition with my two year old daughter, so every time she went to his house she knew she was gonna have her ice cream.
I love you so much PaPa and I will never forget your great stories you told me or our great times that we spent together, Misty

Words sometimes are so elusive when trying to think of the "right" ones to say at this time so just know that your family has been in my prayers and thoughts each day. God knows our pain and understands our tears. May He surround you with His marvelous love and fill your hearts with awesome memories. Phil. 4:6,7

I remember once stopping by to see Uncle Don when I was in Tulsa visiting. He was the head chef in charge of preparing a large banquet for an upcoming event at the convention center. He was frustrated that some of his food orders were running behind, when out of no where he shouted, " Where's the Beef???!! " Looks like I am going to have to go fishing and catch the fish to prepare for this shindig His whole crew yelled back " Yea, any excuse you can use to fish big guy!!!, and laughed!

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. We will all miss him dearly. He was respected by many and loved by everyone who knew him. With so many years of memories with family, friends and loved ones there is something to cherish with everyone. Now that he is in Heaven fishing with the Big Guy, he will have even more everlasting life long memories WE will have to catch up on when our time comes to join him in His Heavenly Fishing Trip.

I was visiting my brother one summer in South Carolina and of course he said lets fishing. He took me to a new lake which had recently been opened to the public. We were headed for a spot a friend of his told him about. The boat hit a stump and the front off the boat went into the air and the back off the boat, where I was sitting, went under water. We manage to get the half sunken boat to shore, about 100 yards, and bailed out the water and started fishing. While throwing a lure, I noticed some eyes on top of the water. I asked brother what it was and he calmly said it was an alligator. I then said take me home!! By the way, we did not catch a fish that day, but it was a fishing to remember.

Most of my favorite memories of my Dad have to do with fishing..... from catching my first fish ever (a catfish on a lake near Grand Prairie Junction, TX) and having him take it back to the restaurant to cook it for me.... was the BEST fish I ever ate! To fishing with him and my daughter, Mikayla and watching her catch all the fish!!! Every time I go fishing, I think about my Dad...and hope that I catch the one that makes him proud. I love you Dad... you will be missed! Happy Fishing! :) Love, Mia
