Obituary of Homer Dwight Hardy, Jr. M.D.

Homer Dwight “H.D.” Hardy, Jr. M.D. was born February 17, 1925 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City to Homer D. Hardy, Sr. and Bonnie V. (Henry) Hardy. He passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Tulsa. He was 91.
H.D. attended Kemper Military School and received his pre-med undergraduate degree and his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his surgical fellowship at Lehey Clinic in Boston, MA. H.D. married Phyllis Joan Love in Marion, IN on August 4, 1946 and served as Captain in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He truly enjoyed his 33 years practicing medicine and was strongly devoted to the success of Hillcrest Hospital where he served as Chief of Staff not once, but twice. He had a deep love and appreciation for Hillcrest and the staff that he served.
H.D. was a loving husband and a devoted father. He was an accomplished aviator, enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as chasing the volatility of the stock market. He was an active member of The Rotary Club of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Joan Love Brumfield; and his poodle, Ginger. H.D. is survived by three children: Janet Kay Stehr, H. Dwight Hardy, III and his wife, Debbie, Bonnie Marie Perry and her husband, Robert; sister, Shirley Hitch of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren: Christopher Ray Stehr and his wife, Thressa, William Russell Stehr and his wife, Audrey, Scott Weston Mowery, Melissa Joan Tomlin and her husband, Jared, Elizabeth Lee Hardy, Bradley Dwight Hardy and his wife, Laura, Matthew Robert Perry and his wife, Nicole, Michelle Perry Child and her husband, David, Bethany Ann Brumfield; eight great-grandchildren: Hailey Tomlin, Meagan Stehr, Stephanie Mowery, Carson Child, Olivia Stehr, Aidan Hardy, Elliotte Perry and Maxwell Hardy.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 39th and South Peoria. A funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday July 6, 2016 Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Hillcrest Medical Center, 1120 S. Utica Ave., Tulsa, OK 74104.
