Obituary of Letha Mae Cather
Please share a memory of Letha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heaven gained a pretty angel on September 5, 2016 as Letha Mae Cather slipped peacefully from this world following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Letha was born with her twin on May 2, 1941 in Stratford, OK to Lillie Lorene (Austin) and Hollis Floyd Ford. After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1959, Letha attended business school, then Oklahoma State University in the early 1960’s. In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Phillip (R.P.) Cather. Letha worked for many years as the Office Manager for several Tulsa businesses: Cowen Construction, Printed Products, Starlite Builders / Admiral Tag Agency and Dave Maher & Associates. As member of the Tulsa chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) since 1972, Letha served on the board in several positions, including President. From 1982-1983, Letha served as NAWIC’s Region 7 Director. She loved her NAWIC family dearly and recently received the Distinguished Service Award.
A woman of many passions, Letha adored spending time with her family, attending every event she could. Along with her twin sister and niece, she loved to go shopping. And in quiet times, she enjoyed gardening at her home in Tulsa. Letha is survived by one sister, Lila and husband Charles Acker of Ada, OK, one niece, Kim and her husband Greg Hext, along with their son Preston of Dallas, TX, her aunt Charlene Dodd of Junction City, KS, cousin Kellie Lawson Conway of Kansas City, KS and Kellie’s son Cameron Conway of Junction City. She was preceded in death by her father Hollis Floyd and mother Lillie Lorene Ford, along with her former husband R.P. Cather. Visitation will be Friday, September 9th from 5-7p at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow on Saturday, September 10th at 11am, also at Ninde Brookside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that any donations be made to the NAWIC Tulsa Chapter Scholarship #20-13450 at Oklahoma State University.
