Jack L. Gilbert passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, June 16, 2007 following a brief illness. He was born September 4, 1925 in Tulsa to parents Ralph H. and Eva Cheek Gilbert. During World War II he proudly served with the United States Navy on board the submarine USS Silversides. After the war, he attended and graduated from Southern Methodist University, where he played football. A real estate broker, he spent his professional career in the real estate and construction industries. Jack worked for the Jenkin's Companies for twenty-five years; he considered the Jenkins a second family. Jack was an active member of the Joyner class at First United Methodist Church in Tulsa and was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph. He is survived by his mother, Eva Gilbert of Sallisaw; his sister, Sally Watson of Sallisaw; his wife, Gwen of Tulsa; his son, Lance Gilbert of Montara, CA; his daughter, Julie Magnuson of Las Vega, NV; grandchildren Lesli Walls, Jim Gilbert, Jenifer Gilbert, and Joshua Magnuson; and three great-grandchildren. Admired for his integrity and kindness, he is loved and missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Heritage Services at First United Methodist Church or the Tulsa SPCA. Handled by Ninde, the memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
